Caring for Your New Braces
Dr. Tahbaz and Dr. Rezapour are known for creating beautiful smiles. Here are some tips for taking care of your braces.
Ortho Care at Luv Smiles
The process of getting your braces placed goes by pretty quickly. Adjusting to them, however, can take a bit longer for our Austin braces patients. However, you should feel used to your braces within the first week or so of treatment.
Take especially good care of your teeth during orthodontic treatment. By brushing and flossing regularly, you'll keep your teeth and gums at their best and ensure that your orthodontic treatment will deliver the healthiest smile possible.
When your braces come off, you'll see that your extra efforts have been rewarded with a healthy, great-looking smile that'll last the rest of your life.
If you fail to spend a little extra time caring for your braces, you may end up with white spots on your teeth once the braces are removed. This is an unsightly condition that no one wants.
The First Few Days
During the first days with your appliance, your mouth will feel a bit sore and your teeth tender to bite pressure. To cope with this, there are two things our Austin braces patients will need to do.
The first is finding some form of pain relief, either with salt-water rinses or with over-the-counter pain relievers. If taking medicine instead of or in addition to the salt-water rinses, an anti-inflammatory will deliver the best results.
The second thing you will need to do is adjust your diet. While your diet will be different throughout treatment, it will be most restrictive during the first few days of becoming a Pflugerville braces patient. Stick to soft foods that you can easily mash with a fork until your teeth are better able to withstand pressure while biting.
The other issue that will arise during those initial days as a Pflugerville braces patient is adjusting to something foreign being in your mouth 24/7. You may find speaking difficult at first, but with practice, all will go back to normal. While the tissues of your mouth adjust, you can cover the more abrasive areas with dental wax until you build up your tolerance.
Eating With Braces
The adhesive that holds your braces to your teeth is very strong, but it’s not indestructible. This means that certain foods can damage your appliance, causing the brackets and wires to come loose or broken.
Since each disruption to treatment sets the process back, our Round Rock braces patients should follow instructions carefully and finish their treatments on time.
What foods should you avoid during your time as a Round Rock braces patient? Anything hard, sticky, or chewy as well as anything sugary or otherwise known to cause cavities. Below are just some of the foods you should work to avoid.
Foods to Avoid
- Gum
- Corn chips
- Caramel
- Candy bars
- Beef jerky
- Taco shells
- Taffy
- Popcorn
- Nuts
- Celery
For the best results in the shortest amount of time, follow these directions carefully. We only want the best for our Manor braces patients.
