Pediatric Dental Care Services

Early Assessment

Starting your child’s dental care early in Bee Cave will help detect risks and evaluate the treatment that may be necessary to keep up with their proper dental health.

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and Luv Braces and Kids Dentistry both recommend scheduling your child’s first dental appointment by their first birthday.

Cleanings

Cleanings remove mineralized plaque that may not have been removed through home brushing.

Afterward, a thorough exam will be performed to discuss hygiene, examine the mouth visually and review X-rays.

Oral Sedation

If your child feels nervous about going to the dentist, we can relieve their anxiety by using oral sedation.

Oral sedation is a way we can use medicine in our office to help your child feel calm and relaxed without falling sound asleep.

X-Rays

Regularly scheduled X-rays allow us to find issues that can’t be seen by an exam alone.

The frequency of X-rays depends on your child’s oral health, their risk for dental disease, and their developmental stage.

Sealants

A sealant is a clear or tooth-colored protective coating, which protects the grooves on the back teeth that may be hard to clean.

We use a filling is used to restore a tooth that may be damaged by decay or trauma. Sealants help to stop the need for fillings in the future.

White Crowns

If you don’t want a metal crown, your child can get a tooth-colored crown in the back instead of stainless steel.

Pulp Therapy

The pulp of the tooth is the inner, central core of the tooth and contains nerves, blood vessels and connective tissue. The purpose of pulp therapy is to maintain the nerves in a tooth.

The diseased pulp tissue is completely removed from both the crown and root. The canals are cleaned, disinfected and filled with a resorb-able material.

Extractions

There are multiple reasons why your child might need a tooth extraction at Luv Braces and Kids Dentistry.

It depends on your child's age and health, but we can make your child more comfortable and extract their tooth at using of local anesthetic or together with a type of sedation.

What Is a Pediatric Dentist?

A pediatric dentist is a dental specialist who has received additional training and certification to treat infants and children and children with special needs. They receive extensive training on how to treat children’s specific dental and orthodontic needs.

Pediatric dentists at Luv Braces and Kids Dentistry can help your child have a positive experience during their check-up and learn how to take care of their teeth for years to come.

Children’s dentists in Bee Cave focus on the prevention and treatment of dental disease and the overall health of the children they treat.

When Should My Child See The Pediatric Dentist?

The American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentists recommend that children have a dental check-up by their first birthday and continue to see the dentist every six months.

One in three toddlers already has a cavity, even though they’re almost entirely preventable. Poor dental health can affect a child’s health, growth, speech and self-esteem.

Meet Dr. Chan

Dr. Chan's journey into dentistry is rooted in her own early experiences.

Growing up in the Northeast, between New York City and New Jersey, Dr. Chan didn't visit a dentist until the age of seven. Facing numerous cavities, crowns, and fillings from those initial visits, she developed a fear of dental appointments.

However, this changed when she met her pediatric dentist, whose kindness and expertise transformed her dread into inspiration. This profound impact motivated her to pursue dentistry, aiming to positively influence her young patients.

Practice Philosophy

Dr. Chan is committed to educating families on the importance of preventative care, aiming to create a calm and gentle dental environment. She believes in empowering children to develop healthy oral habits early on, for a lifetime of dental health and beautiful smiles.

Cavities are preventable yet also the most common disease in children, and her goal is to help her community establish good oral health to focus on and succeed in other facets of life.

Education & Specialization

Dr. Chan graduated summa cum laude from Rutgers University with a degree in cell biology and neuroscience. She then received her Doctorate of Dental Surgery at Columbia University, where she subsequently specialized in pediatric dentistry at Columbia University-New York Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Chan has a keen interest in laser dentistry and remains at the forefront of dental care by routinely completing continuous education courses so she can ensure her young patients receive the most advanced care possible.

Beyond the Dental Office

Dr. Chan cherishes her time with her husband and two rescue pets. An avid horse rider, she also enjoys reconnecting with friends and family and embracing the thrill of travel and exploration.

Dr. Chan's life outside the office reflects her warm, adventurous spirit — and her commitment to bringing smiles not just to her patients, but to all aspects of her life.
